June 2023 Board Meeting


Attendees:  Tim Rinowski, John M., Mike W, Terryl P., Sue Westburg, Sue Reinhart, Robbie,

Meeting was called to order at 9:03 AM


Secretary’s Report:

Read may minutes and they are Accepted as is:

  • John Made the motion to accept and 2nd by Tim and Terryl


Treasurer’s Report:

Checking account balance:           $3445.52

Money Market account:                $70,266.28

Receivables:                                        $16,272.78

Payables:                                             $          0.00

Total:                                                     $89,984.58


  • Placemats have been completed - Thanks Melissa
  • No budget has been pulled together yet but will have it for the next meeting.
  • Payroll:  Mary Ellen has agreed to do it another year.  John has a contact (Mary Kay Schwab) to start next year.  They will meet with Mary Ellen to discuss and determine a transition plan.


We need to update and remove some of the authorized signers from the Grand Timber bank account, for both the checking and money market account.

  • Authorized Bank account signers:

  • Robbie and Nikki will investigate the by-laws to determine who should be on the account.
  • John made the motion and 2nd by Chuck.


Water Quality Report:

  • Harvester is in the water.  Went into the lake on Tuesday.  Started in Growlers Bay, then Sportsman’s Bay,
  • Ended up needing to purchase three batteries.  Nikki has the invoices.
  • Hydraulic winch – John is still looking into what he can find to fit our needs.
  • John needs to get with Mary Ellen to finalize all the payroll information.


Loon Nesting Platforms:

  • All platforms are out.
  • There are eggs (2) on the Bann’s platform.
  • Gregg is going to investigate why we aren’t seeing as many loons on the lake.  Concern is that the winter storms had an impact on the loons.
  • Still working with Man Trap Lake association to get more lessons learned from their program.
  • Looking to move the one in the Sportsman Bay across the bay into the bullrushes.
  • The LMA is not able to mark the hazards on the lake, that is done by the DNR.
  • Could we cut the bullrushes earlier in the fall/winter so that we can have some for the nesting platforms.  Tim and Greg will work on getting some.



Old Business:

LID Meeting:

  • They would like to know what upcoming expenses that we foresee:  Maybe a different truck. The current truck is a 1997 unit.
  • Lake Country auctions off their trucks. Greg will see who he knows at Lake Country, he thinks it’s Dan. 


Kid’s Fishing Day:

  • We will be providing the food for lunch.  Sue R. will be getting all the food.  Sportsman will be contributing $300. 
  • Pontoons:  Chuck, 2 Blaylocks, Westberg’s, Mike W, Tim R., Pat Rath


LMA Merchandise:

  • Shirts of Aitkin – Now responding and we have all the kid’s t-shirts.  Very cute design
  • Working on new designs and we should have them to review next week.
  • Will be getting a quote for Koozie’s for 300 and 500.  Thinking that we should get 500 and we can sell them at the BBQ.
  • Working to have some shorts and UV shirts this year.

Placemats and coaster:

  • Gabe’s printing (Edina) did our printing this year.
  • Sue picked them up with no issues.
  • We need more coasters.  Gabe’s has the design on file. Make sure that the type is correct.
  • Will plan on doing the coaster contest again this year.
  • Terryl will talk to Mark’s bar to see if they would like both placemats and coasters.
  • We are reimbursed for these from Aitkin County.

Business Memberships:

  • Mailed 100 applications.  Have 16 returned so far.
  • Robbie and Beth will let Tim and Aryliss know when we have business memberships on the website.
  • Would it be a good idea to have window clings for the business members to display??


Insurance:

  • DNO coverage.  We need to be sure that we have the coverage. Nikki to determine if the premium has been paid and if it hasn’t, she will be paying it.


BBQ:

  • Will be August 12th at Bann’s parking lot.
  • Arylss has been busy getting donations for the silent auction.  Lots of success so far.
  • Bonnie has pinball machines for the kids to put together.
  • The wheelbarrow raffle will be again.


Fisheries:

  • We did stock the walleyes (1.2 million) this year and will have more stocked next year.
  • Maintenance of the dam.  DNR and Army core of engineers.  We can check the condition of the dam, and then communicate anything to Rick and the right people.
  • We have a great working relationship with the DNR and Aitkin Soil and Water group.


SECCI Disc reading:

  • Ken Jensen is no longer to help with this program.
  • Ole Westburg and Bruce Patterson have stepped up to manage the testing and program.


AIS:

  • Richard is back again at the boat launch this year.  This is his 5th or 6th year on the Lake.
  • A power washer station is in place for cleaning off the boats and trailers.

  • New business:
  • Can we authorize a laptop for the Treasure role?  That way whoever is doing that role doesn’t have to use their own or work laptops.
  • Sue W made the motion to purchase a laptop. Motion was 2nd by Beth.  The vote was unanimously approved.
  • Melissa is proposing to do an Environmental DNA Genomic sequencing test on the Lake. It is new technology that is being done at the U of M.   It requires water samples, and the testing would be through the University of Minnesota.  Sue W. will get the DNR representative information to Melissa so that we can work together.

  • Upcoming Meetings:
  • Annual Meeting:   August 5th 10:00 at the Sportsman Club
